NFL legend Sterling Sharpe joins Club Shay Shay for a powerful and emotional conversation with his brother, Shannon Sharpe — marking a historic moment between the first brothers to both be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Sterling opens up about their humble beginnings in Georgia, including growing up without running water, learning discipline from their grandfather, and how their grandma’s love and strength helped hold the family together. He reflects on the lessons their grandfather taught them — even though he never once said “I love you” — and why his passing was the most freeing day of Sterling’s life. At just $6 an hour, Sterling worked in the fields, often giving his paycheck to his grandma to help keep the lights and heat on.
In the second half of Sterling Sharpe’s sit-down, the brothers reminisce about their early jobs, and how trying different things helped them figure out what they didn’t want to do. Shannon even learned to drive at 5 years old. Sterling shares how those experiences shaped his mindset as he chased his football dreams.
Though he dreamed of playing for Clemson, Sterling chose South Carolina (USC) for deeper connections — a school that would later retire his number, which he nearly unretired once for Duce Staley. He recounts being drafted in the first round, alongside Anthony Miller, Aaron Cox, and Anthony Jones, and thinking he was headed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before being drafted by the Green Bay Packers.
Sterling reflects on life in the NFL, including not knowing what the receiving “Triple Crown” was until Cooper Kupp achieved it. He shares how Jon Gruden once compared him to Michael Jordan, how fast Deion Sanders truly was, and how different the game looks now. Coaches and peers like Andy Reid believed that if Sterling hadn’t gotten hurt, he would’ve gone down as the greatest wide receiver ever.
Sterling also shares memories of playing alongside Terry Crews, his devastating injury, and how even Jerry Jones once asked him to make a comeback. Today, if given the chance, he says he’d love to play with Joe Burrow or Lamar Jackson. The episode ends with a reflection on his eye surgeries, life after football, and the journey that led him to his Hall of Fame moment.
This isn’t just a football story — it’s a story about family, sacrifice, legacy, and resilience. Don’t miss this rare, heartfelt sit-down between two legendary brothers.

I haven’t even watched this yet and I’m loving it!!! Love it!!!
Sterling is one classy and elegantly spoken❤
Sterling > Jerry
Total stats are overrated. 'best ever' conversations have really become 'who had the most storybook career' conversations and thats not the same at all. Sterling was the best WR in the world for a while.
Instead of 20 mil to his family, he gave it to a young only fans who*re. But hey it's his money 😂
Their memory is impeccable
Pretty cool and introspective.
Two brothers in the HOFer. This is historic. Especially when you factor where they came from. Just the odds of it all
Whew Sterling, an amazing player but just as humble as can be. Just talking about their childhood was so heartwarming. ❤
No wonder Sterling is Shannon's mentor. Class act!
29:42 I don't care what type of man grandpa was HE WAS A FOUL MAN FOR THAT!!! Couldn't hook you up with even a few bites, just have you watch him eat all that! NAH SIR that is not a decent man I was taught don't ever eat in front of someone without giving an innovation to even a bit!!!
1:16:46 yeah I remember those days. Having to help the family by any means possible. I found out how to get into vending machines and I used to hut the one in teachers lounge at school and sell the soda and all in lunch room or payphone ripping just any way possible I killed it in 6th grade with the vending machines. Or I would try to find under the table jobs in pizza places doing whatever or construction as a gopher. And now my kids have it cushy and I see how it enables them in situations where I woulda had it figured out and halfway done but it also makes me feel good that my children get to have a childhood for as long as possible and get everything I can give em.
Such a great interview!❤
Love this episode so wholesome these men went through so much GOD couldn’t have made a better choice gracing their life with blessings after growing up how they did
My favorite club Shay Shay episode yet the chemistry remind me of me and my brother
What happened to their parents
This is a beautiful interview.
Man Sterling Sharpe was a beast. Unc doing some numbers! Still thriving!
Wished the brother trained as well
If I didn’t know any better. I would’ve thought Sterling was 10+ years older than Shannon and not by physical looks, just the wisdom. Can tell he had to grow up fast
Columbia, South Carolina Legend. Mans got a Health Clinic in the hood
Wish I had a brother like Sterling. Great interview !
That’s South Georgia, I was an 80’s baby and out in Johnson Corner, 15 minutes from Glennville. My mother, aunties, and uncles used to tell use how they grew up like this. I only saw the out houses and wells, the cows, the goats, the chickens, the fields, etc. Now our families don’t own farms anymore. Interesting stuff. I love this. The love of who we are. The love of self and family is beautiful.
That’s a man with his priorities in order!!
By far the best interview Shannon has ever done. His love for his brother knows no bounds and Sterling’s humble demeanor is astounding.
Not one person didn’t make sure his surgery went well speaks volumes about how they white folks viewed us..
I had the same childhood in the late 90s
No one called because you are a commodity to these owners. Nothing more nothing less
2:18:58 ts crazy smh
Shannon Sharpe this one is so good I'm literally listening to it for a second time!!!!
👏🏽🇺🇲
When he said I should be a plumber 😂😂😂
Now days the mom befriends their daughters and turn them against the father
The table talk is how it should be ! Now everyone fast asf 😂 this generation cooked lmao

Man, this story his hard!!
20:35 this level of country people have no concept of.
This is the stuff. My older brothers and sisters told me about as a kid growing up in Mississippi.

26 minutes in and I love sterling ❤❤❤
I just love them…this is what it's all about <3
Shannon earned his own way and no one gave it to him
This is my favorite episode of Club Shay Shay I've watched this whole thing 10 times
You can tell his brother so humble. He just lived that way and it was normal to him.
Shannon tryna just get views telling them stories. Ignoring his bro after many times he said his older sister gonna be mad and that lifestyle was normal for him n sister. He just kept pushing it and wasn’t listening to a word his big bro was saying.
